How to Keep Your Wedding Costs Down

• Set Your Priorities: What’s most important to you? The food? The music? Decide what matters most to you and trim your budget in the other areas.
  

• Be Flexible: Many venues will charge you up to 25% less if you schedule your wedding and reception on a Friday or Sunday instead of Saturday.

• Establish a Budget: Research potential wedding costs on-line.  Know ahead of time what things are likely to cost you, then stick to your budget.  Create a separate bank account for your wedding and contribute to it regularly.  Add a cushion of about 10% for last minute and unexpected expenses.  Don’t forget the “little” expenses such as taxes and fees.  And don’t forget to tip those who put in extra, unpaid time and effort before, during and after your special day.  For tipping guidelines, visit www.theknot.com.
  
  
• Limit Your Guest List: This is the biggest money-saver of all.  Fewer people means less food and alcohol, fewer invitations and a smaller reception venue.  Going from 150 guests to 100 guests could save you thousands of dollars.  Once you have your guest list, stick to it.  Don’t let others pressure you into inviting inappropriate relatives or rarely-seen friends.
  
  
• Negotiate Everything: Don't be reluctant to ask for extras, upgrades and discounts. 
  
  
• Read Your Contracts: Know exactly what you’re paying for and what services are and are not included.  Ask questions.
